70th Anniversary Celebration
This year marks the 70th year of Library service by the Galax Public Library. To recognize this achievement, there will be an open house at the Library on West Stuart Drive on Sunday, November 16th from 3 to 5pm. Refreshments will be provided by the Galax Book Club.
A short program will begin at 3:30 featuring a performance by the Joy Bell Ringers of the First Baptist Church of Galax in the main library.
The first library in Galax began through the efforts of the Galax Business & Professional Women’s Club and was located in one room of the Town’s [Galax was not yet a city] offices upstairs in what now is the location of Galax Social Services. In 1956, the Library moved to the upstairs of the Appalachian Power Building – formerly the Maplemoor Dairy building. In 1974 the remodeled home of B. C. Vaughan became the location of the books and services of the library until 2001 when the present building was opened.
Everyone is invited to attend this event – It is your library – help us celebrate.
