The Ghost of Edgar Allan Poe

EDGAR ALLAN POE HAUNTING THE REX

Just in time for Halloween, “The Ghost of Edgar Allan Poe” can be seen at the Rex Theatre in Galax on Saturday, October 25, at 8:00 pm. The performance will include “The Bells”, “The Raven”, and “The Tell-Tale Heart”, interwoven with biographical information about Poe. Admission is $5.

Poe is played by Paul Hodges, an actor, poet, author, and song writer. Hodges has gained a modicum of fame for his acting and writing. He played Robert Jones, one of the founders of Galax, in the play "Jewel of the Blue Ridge," in the Rex a few years ago. He has appeared in "The Waterless Sea," with Terri Ingalls and in "A Country Courtship," with Peter and Christina Holland, at several venues in North Carolina and Virginia. He has had leading roles in a dozen or more plays at The Andy Griffith Theatre in Mount Airy. In addition to the Poe show, he has several other one-man shows, most notably "A Mighty Current: The Life and Times of Bobby Kennedy."

This theater experience is sponsored, in part, by The Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the arts in the Twin Counties. For more information, call (276) 238-1217. Tickets are available at the door.

Chestnut Creek School of the Arts Sampler Classes

Get yourself A New Flow of Consciousness at the Creek, Chestnut Creek School of the Arts, that is.

Next weekend during Galax's Leaf & String Festival you'll have the opportunity to tap into your creative side, try something new, and learn how relaxing it is to create.

There is room left in these sampler classes and the price is right: Whittling, Knitting, Crocheting, and Guitar.

A therapy session will cost you 3 times the meager fee of $25 for one of these classes. Details are at www.chestnutcreekarts.org. Or call (276) 236-3500 and we'll give you the spill.

Visit the emerging website, anyway. It's looking good.
